Is the Academy a Stronghold of Heteronormativity and Gender Conformity?

Hey everyone!
I’ve just returned from the above talk, presented by the wonderful LGBT soc over at the University of Dundee. It proved to be an interesting discussion with three wonderful speakers:
- Bob Cant, author of “Footsteps and Witnesses; Lesbian and Gay Lifestories from Scotland
- Jo Clifford – Writer of the controversial play ”Jesus, Queen of Heaven”
- Brian Dempsey – Lecturer in law at the University of Dundee
All of the talks presented were fascinating: Between Bob’s anecdotes relating to his previous work (particularly his histories of gay and lesbians featured in his book) and Jo’s collection of humorous and sombre writings from trans-persons (which I found particularly haunting) and Brians discussions, it proved to be an informative and excellent evening. The time afterwards was spent with members of Dundee’s LGBT society who were excellent hosts. Overall, the evening proved to be very enjoyable and myself and the committee look forward to working with Dundee LGBT well into the future!
