Hey everyone!

I’ve just returned from the above talk, presented by the wonderful LGBT soc over at the University of Dundee. It proved to be an interesting discussion with three wonderful speakers:

Bob Cant, author of “Footsteps and Witnesses; Lesbian and Gay Lifestories from Scotland

Jo Clifford – Writer of the controversial play ”Jesus, Queen of Heaven”

Brian Dempsey – Lecturer in law at the University of Dundee

All of the talks presented were fascinating: Between Bob’s anecdotes relating to his previous work (particularly his histories of gay and lesbians featured in his book) and Jo’s collection of humorous and sombre writings from trans-persons (which I found particularly haunting) and Brians discussions, it proved to be an informative and excellent evening. The time afterwards was spent with members of Dundee’s LGBT society who were excellent hosts. Overall, the evening proved to be very enjoyable and myself and the committee look forward to working with Dundee LGBT well into the future!

Hi all,

Just to let everyone know that tomorrow (Sunday 27th September) is the Fresher’s Fayre at the Union. This is a great time to come along and join LGBT along with any other societies you might be interested in joining. The Fayre starts at 10am and the LGBT table is going to be up on the top floor of the union, in Venue Two. We’ll have loads of rainbow flags and bunting so you won’t be able to miss us! We’ll have sign-up sheets for anyone who wants to join the mailing list, and we’ll be taking money from those who want to become fully signed up members (only £5 for a whole year of events!) Even if you’re not sure if you want to join the society but you do want to come and see what we’re about, we’re always happy to chat so please come and say hello.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Hi everyone!

It’s that time of year again, when the summer sunshine has started to disappear and the cool autumn winds begin to blow. While the weather may have taken a turn for the worse, there is still reason to celebrate. September heralds the start of term – meaning that all the old faces from LGBT will be returning to our little town, and a whole host of new people will grace us with their persence. Whether you’re a fresher, a JYA, a Post Grad student or even just someone new to the St Andrews community, we would love to see you at one of our weekly Monday night meetings. Having said that, even if you’re a returning St Andrews student who’s never been to LGBT before, now may be the perfect time to come and see what we’re all about – we’re a friendly bunch, and you really will be hard pressed to meet a more welcoming group of people. Come along and see for yourself.
We have a whole calander of events surrounding the first weeks of term, from our stall at the Socieities Fair (in Venue Two, we’ll be the table with rainbow flags!) to the first clubbing trip of the year – check back here, or on the facebook group for more details.
And if you’re a little aprehensive about coming along to The Vic on a Monday night, we also run a range of Wednesday evening talks at our brilliant coffee drop in – it’s an informal and alcohol free chance to meet both the committee and the rest of the members. The first drop in will be in Freshers Week, but probably during the daytime – more details will be posted soon.
Finally, whether you are coming back to St Andrews as a returning student, or you’re a first time occupent of our little bubble, I, and the rest of the committee, hope the coming year contains much laughter, entertainment and good memories for you. We hope you have a great 2009 – 2010.
